Please see policy
sheet for details regarding
billing for Mastering.
Definition of Mastering:
Mastering is the final stage of the creation of a CD Master (and
eventual CD). Loading, sequencing, leveling, reverb, equalization,
dynamic processing and the burning of the final CDR master are all
part of the mastering process.
During the mastering
process, many adjustments are made to create the final sound of
the recording. These adjustments are monitored with my state of
the art monitoring system, as well as very high-quality headphones.
If, upon listening to the master in your own personal listening
environment, you wish me to make changes to the sound in order to
match your own system, or to effect your own vision of the final
sound of the recording, please be advised that any work done to
create that sound will be billed at the regular hourly rate.
If the project was
not recorded multi-track, the adjustment of balance between instruments
is limited. Please keep this in mind when deciding if a project
will be recorded multi-track or stereo.
While the cost of
mastering can vary widely, expect to spend a minimum of 4 hours.
Mastering can be a very intensive and time-consuming process, depending
on the material and client needs. If you have a strict budget for
the mastering, please advise me of that fact.
The work that I do
on a project when you are not present is billable at the same rate
as when you are at the studio. The time required to actually create
a master subsequent to deciding the sound is usually about 2.5 hours
(to create the wet master file and final CDR Master).
If I master a project,
and you decide to make changes subsequent to the creation of the
CD Master, you are responsible for any time spent re-mastering the
CD and the burning of a new CDR Master.
If you have any questions about any of the
above, please call 718.367.5385.
